Brown was a pivotal force in the evolution of gospel and rhythm and blues into soul and funk. He left his mark on numerous other musical genres, including rock, jazz, disco, dance and electronic music, reggae and hip hop.

He was one of my favorites. Have any one listened to his music works, it contains different mixes of music.

He was an amazing performer, and a natural musician. I met him a couple of times when we both appeared on SCETV's "Job Man Caravan" at the same time, and I don't even want to tell you how long ago that was!

I was trying to remember just how it came about that he -- such a star!-- would be on such a program, much less how I came to be on there with him. I believe he was doing court-ordered community service at the time. (My part on the show was to talk about jobs available for young people - the boring part  - and James Brown, or whatever other artist was featured - was the main reason anybody would tune in to watch. It was neat to get to talk to him and then watch him perform.

That's cool that you met such an icon in the music world, lorac520.

I am pretty much aware of his influence on the music world I'd say, but I'm not familiar with many of his actual tracks other than the huge hits that everyone knows.

I remember seeing some vintage TV clips of him in his youth. He was an amazing performer.

This is a sad news for all music lovers. James Brown was a great singer who rose to fame in the early 1960s. He was not only a singer but he was also a songwriter and bandleader. May his soul rest in peace.
