Paul Newman

I was saddened to see the news that film actor Paul Newman died yesterday. The MSNBC wesite (www.msnbc.msn.com) has a poll to vote for your favorite Paul Newman film. First I was surprised at how many of his better-known films I've never actually seen -- surprising since he's been one of my favorites over the years. Then I was surprised that my favorite of his movies was not even listed in the survey -- The Long, Hot Summer. That was most likely the first movie I ever saw him in, with Joanne Woodward.

He was also a fine director, but again there is much of his work that I have not seen. Looks like it's time to check out some videos. Does anyone have some favorites to recommend?

He was a great actor. But what I really loved about him is all the money and time he donated to good causes. Most celebrities do not do half the things he did to help others. He was a great human being.

I'm not familiar with many of his specific films at all, but I'm aware at how he sustained a remarkable level of artistry over a number of decades.

Certainly he was a classic.

He was a great actor. They are a few films of his that have not been released to TV or Video. Perhaps they will see the light of day some time

Paul was a legend in the film world. He also won several national championships as a driver in Sports Car Club of America road racing. Paul was an actor as well as a motor enthusiast.

It was a sad day when he went.

I had been watching him slowly degrade from cancer and it was a shame that such a great man should suffer.

But his legacy will live long on and that's a good thing.

You will find that over the past years, there has not been a spike in celebrities deaths. We only think there is when the more famous ones pass away all near each other.

R.I.P. to a great actor. Paul Newman will be missed
